MAXIPOWER! By Msalonen

Ladies…

Every summer the maxi dress comes back with revenge. It’s a good stable for your summer wardrobe. However, on a daily basis I witness some hideous fashion fails. Just last week I saw this woman walking in Soho like nobody’s business, dressed in black tent shaped maxi dress. It was revolting. She looked like a bag of squirrel shit. [Editors note: Unfortunately, this is true. I saw it too]

The Maxi dress is an easy option, you throw it on and you are pretty much done. BUT (you saw it coming, right?), you should pay attention to what you wear with it.

Wear too little and you end up looking like hobo, wear too much and you look try-hard. There are some serious issues with maxi dresses..but here is my take on the trend..

Maxi Dress by Matthew Williamson £ 1,095

Maxi Dress by WareHouse £80

In a perfect world, we could all afford the Matthew Williamson dress. Unfortunately, this isnt a perfect world. So we must make do with a copy or two. UGH! However, this WareHouse (or as I like to call it “Whorehouse”) dress, is a pretty perfect copy.

Maxi dresses should be FUN! Happy, fun, light and so forth. Do color, GO MAXI!

Heels by Diane Von Furstenburg “Lady Leather” £260

Quite frankly I dont understand maxi’s with flats. Even if you are headed for a festival, wear your heels. At least if someone does bump you over, you can repay the favor by leaving a nasty gash on their feet. These maybe the best gladiators I have ever seen. If you are going to buy the MW dress, I am sure you can find an extra £300 to get the heels and if you are buying the cheap copy from WareHouse, then you really oughta spend the cash on the shoes! Listen up ladies, skimp where you can, spend where you MUST!

Bracelets by Giles & Brother £205

Gold. Gold. Gold. Need some fabulous bracelets to set off your golden tan (dont even think about wearing multicolored maxi dress without a tan!!)

Earrings by Giles & Brother £65

Loves these. Good price, sturdy and just so beautiful. If you are going to wear the dress, then you might as well go all out ghetto.

Bag by TopShop £50

Keep it clean, something easy to throw across your body. Big enough to fit your smokes, hair brush, lippy and blackberry. Done.

Faded denim jacket by Warehouse £45

Not a big fan of faded denim (secret ewwwwwwwwwwwwww). However, for this look, it does need it. Plus it will come handy once falls sets in and the nights get chilly. Then, wear it with black trousers, the same heels and a lovely big snuggly scarf!

That should do it. I want hippy hair, golden tan and natural nails on fingers and toes.

Next time, I am thinking wedding..but all out wedding outfit. One that pushes the bride to the corner! UGH!

Have a lovely weekend you all.

I’m DYING at the phrase ‘bag of squirrel shit’. Best. Thing. Ever.

Great post! I love maxis but wish they made some which would help out the bigger busted ladies in the house. My boobs are never going to fit in those tiny little strappy cup contraptions. Please!

Also disagree with the heels idea. Heels + maxi = standing on your dress and falling over. I’ve seen it happen.

But gorgeous choices here all round, and am loving that topshop satchel!!!

I like to call Warehouse – WHOREHOUSE. Another cracker from M! I am so into the maxi dress, it commands attention. Can’t wait for the wedding edition x
