It’s a Healthy Eating thing…..

I eat a lot.

I really can’t help it. I absolutely love food. All kinds of it. Including bad stuff, like cheeseburgers and pizza.

Oh, who am I kidding?! Especially bad stuff, like cheeseburgers and pizza!

My roomy, on the other hand, eats like a sparrow and rarely digs in to a takeaway, which has led me to think quite long and hard about my eating habits. While I don’t drastically need to lose weight (except the few extra pounds I think we all carry after Christmas) I have decided to embark on a healthy eating plan, and see where it gets me.

So, after trawling the internonsense looking for a plan that doesn’t deprive me, scare me or make me spend hundreds of pounds I don’t have on mystery ingredients I’ve never heard of…I settled for this Healthy Eating plan that I found on the NetDoctor site.

I like it. It’s full of foods I enjoy, it lets me snack, and it encourages me to eat lots…but of the right things rather than the crap. Certain aspects are interchangeable and they promote a variety of foods so hopefully, I won’t get bored. And best of all, there is even the mention of chips in there somewhere…so I don’t feel like I’m missing out on “treats”.

I’m not expecting (nor do I want) to lose a whole lot of weight, but I am hoping that eating better helps me feel better too. With all the medication I pump into my body, all the alcohol I’ve poisoned myself with over the years and the forced lack of exercise my injuries cause…I’m pretty sure I should be nicer to myself if I ever want to see 40.

So, today I did a huge shop, restocked the cupboards, filled up the freezer with good quality meat and got as many veggies as I could possibly find and after todays lunch and tonights dinner I can report that so far…it’s so good.

The plan lasts for 4 weeks so wish me luck! I hope that by that time it will feel like a habit and I won’t even have to think twice about eating well. If anyone fancies joining me, the details are all here…why not jump in?!

Hows it going Rach? I’m finding mine really easy – lost 2lbs in 2 days which wasn’t even the aim but is a pleasant side effect of being healthier! Am allowed 4 glasses of wine a week which I’m planning to consume on Saturday night – thats probably not how its meant to work but hey…rules are adaptable, right?!!

Good luck! The key is to find a plan, and just to be aware. I am reading the Slow Down Diet by Marc David at the moment. It is about awareness and an approach to eating, rather than a diet plan. I’m finding it pretty common sense but hard to do at the same time (for example, no blackberry during lunch, or blog reading!)… I look forward to seeing your posts about this over the next 4 weeks!

Sounds amazing! I need to shift a few pounds but not exactly good at resisting the lure of the takeaway. Especially living with a boyfriend who eats like a horse and never has weight issues (darn sport being a natural part of his life rather than a form of torture) Eating healthy is the way forward, as long as I don’t have to deprive myself :)

I know what you mean – it is sooo easy to order chinese/pizza, but so far this has been good – and knowing that oven chips, steak and things are all allowed makes it so easy! I’m even allowed treats like wine and twiglets so I don’t feel hungry or annoyed by the lack of things at all. I’ve only been doing it 2 days so can’t speak long term but the last couple of days have been easy…& hunger/craving free!

Oooh good news! Just weighed myself, and despite cheating and having rather more wine than my permitted 4 glasses this weekend, I have lost whole 4lbs in a week!! Thats pretty bloody amazing if you ask me…definitely keeping this up!

Oooh, I’m loving this… OK I’m in! Right, first things first 1. Dust off the Wii fit! 2. Weigh myself. 3. Stock fridge with correct food and… begin!!! Let you know how I get on…
