OK, so it’s fair to say that Mexico isn’t exactly having the best of luck right now. Over 700 cases of Swine Flu have been confirmed so far, and whilst the rate of newly discovered cases is slowing, the consequent drop in tourism is having a devastating effect on the countries economy.

However, it’s not all doom & gloom. In Mexico, the 5th of May, or Cinco De Mayo is a highly celebrated date in the calendar, commemorating the Mexican army’s defeat of the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 despite being hugely outnumbered, under the leadership of their beloved president Benito Juarez.

So while it may not be the best time to visit Mexico to join in the celebrations… it is definitely a fabulous time to get yourselves down to Benito’s Hat in Goodge Street this week. Included in both Time Out and The Independants Top 50 Cheap Eats, and rated 4* by the Metro’s hugely respected Marina O’Loughlin, Benito’s Hat serves delicious burritos, tacos, salads and soups assembled in front of diners from the freshest and tastiest ingredients available. The meals are tasty, healthy and exceedingly affordable at £4 to £6 (BARGAIN!). They are also relaunching their bar to coincide with the Cinco De Mayo celebrations – and are offering a fabulous 2 for 1 deal on their new summery cocktails today, tomorrow and Thursday.

This is Mexican food served as it should be with simple, fresh and vibrant flavours. Diners are able to select a bespoke combination of marinated meats, vegetables, rice, beans, cheese and fresh salsas, all wrapped in a fresh warm tortilla or served over cool and crisp mixed leaf lettuce. The meals are tasty, healthy and exceedingly affordable at £4 to £6. Our ingredients are local where possible (we have succeeded in sourcing our chillies and the exotic central-american vegetable, tomatillos, from a farm in Bedfordshire) and high-quality always.
