I love the fact that in London, anything goes.
Punks cross roads next to Supermodels, Suits walk to work next to Artists. Style is individual and raw and eclectic. There are no rules.
I can be anyone, on anyday, depending on my mood. I can wear a sexy black shift dress and sky high heels if I want to feel powerful, or a floaty dress and waistcoat when I’m more relaxed. I can be a hippie, a starlet or a boffin, and no-one bats an eye-lid. I love that.
But somedays, I want to be polished. If I have an important meeting, or a date, or just want to give myself a little bit of TLC, I like to be spoilt. And every girl knows, there is no faster way to fabulous than taking a little trip to the hairdressers and feeling those expert fingers rake themselves through your locks.
So, when I heard about Percy & Reeds Breakfast Club Blow Dry, I was naturally a happy little camper.
If you haven’t heard of Percy & Reed, let me explain. This ultra-chic, intimate salon, situated opposite Villandry on Great Portland Street, has Stylists that can work magic and a client list that dreams are made of. Established by Paul Percival and Adam Reed, the salon is fast becoming one of London’s most talked about hair salons, with a relaxed and super-cool feel.
It’s a gorgeous space, and as I arrived at 9am (which I hadn’t seen for a while) I was welcomed with a friendly smile…and followed in by the uber-stylish Davinia Taylor dressed in the most gorgeous dress I have seen in a while. I waited for a few minutes for my Stylist to join me and passed the time earwigging on Davinia’s consultation with Adam Reed (The Reed of Percy & Reed), which was funny and interesting and quite clearly means I was brought up badly and have no manners.
I was then guided over to my station and brought breakfast. Delicious, fresh breakfast, which I had ordered the night before online and had been delivered fresh from Villandry‘s French Kitchen just a few minutes before. Yummy.
My lovely stylist Lacey consulted with me as to how my hair suited me best and how I would like her to style my hair, before washing it and giving me the best scalp massage I have had in years.
It wasn’t all that easy to eat my bagel, read the paper and chat while having my hair dried, but I gave it a jolly good go. We chatted about possible new options for my hair, which I desperately need coloured, and I really appreciated Laceys input and suggestions which were clever and original. The best bit? She never once tried to push me into booking or suggest anything that would be too hard to afford/maintain, but made me 100% sure that I will go there when the time comes, as I know that’s the kind of expertise I’m looking for.
There’s not much to say about the blow drying process itself – it was a blow dry – and there’s not a lot to explain. The results, however…are a different story.
My hair looked completely different. It was full of bounce and life, with a shine that I haven’t seen for a while. I looked polished and professional and, if I do say so myself, simply gorgeous!
If I was back in the corporate world and had a life that required me to be fabulous a little bit more often, I would be making weekly trips to Percy & Reed. It’s a little bit luxurious, but if (like me) you struggle to tame your tresses, it can save a whole heap of time and effort in the long run, plus, it injected some serious Parisian glamour into this Londoners day. The service, the salon and the style were all amazing and the results lasted for at least a couple of days, so it’s definite value for money.
I cannot recommend The Breakfast Club highly enough. Whether you’ve got an interview, a big event or just want to give yourself a little boost first thing in the morning, book in and I promise you’ll feel great in no time.
What a wonderful way to start your day.
