Belly Be Gone… Aloha Bikini Bod!

I love the sunshine. At the first hint of the bright little ball in the sky I search for my flip flops and create a schedule for which pair of sunglasses to wear on which day. I often find myself skipping down the street and dodging wasps as I go.  However, this week as I was skipping an unsightly phenomenon occurred.

My belly wobbled.

All by itself.

Now this is most distressing to someone who has led an active life and it will probably please my mother greatly that I have decided to address this situation. (However, I do not think I will be getting a fringe cut no matter how hard you try Mum.)  I am sure that my diet of petrol station sandwiches and Oreo cookies during the rehearsal process for Othello has not helped, but now I am ready to slim down and be proud of the way I look if I am lucky enough to get myself to a beach this Summer. Even if it is Brighton. In fact, especially if it IS Brighton. I ruddy love that place.

Now, before I continue I should point out that I know I am not “fat”, however I know that I am bigger than I would like to be, ie I would like to please fit into my skinny grey jeans please thank you please. So I have decided to diet and exercise on a much more regular basis and I figured that to give myself some more motivation I would try to offer any of you lovely readers some support and encouragement whilst I suffer.

So who’s with me? Let’s get healthy and work together to stay focused and positive! If you have thought about it, why not start today with me? After all it is Monday, the start of a new week and all that. So if your elvensies snack is not a piece of fruit or something healthy/with low calories go and swap it with someone else in the office that isn’t too bothered about losing weight.

I am willing to do many a ‘tried and tested’ diet regime, to give you a personal low down on which methods worked for me and which ones didn’t. When I mentioned this on Twitter I was presented with a plethora of suggestions, many of which I am sure to be adopting over the next few months;

“you should do this one!” - @CalamityCharls

“Don’t eat/drink anything after 5 o clock but cups of hot water with lemon, frankly hideous but it works”@livsdarling

“Never go to bed hungry – you wont sleep properly and your resolve will falter.”@Suziepooz

“cut out sugar and booze. Don’t worry about fat…sugar is the one…evil!”@this_rocks

I would like to point out that I don’t recommend extreme dieting for anyone and I would suggest people always have a chat with their friends if they’re thinking about losing weight. Your friends are the people who love you exactly the way you are (and you are fabulous, by the way) but they are also the people who will keep you in check if you need help with keeping up with your regime and reign you in if you go too far.

Week One will start with me ditching the sugary snacks and drinks and reaching for some carrot sticks and a bottle of water

Nom Nom Noms

instead. A tip I have encountered before is that fizzy drinks are a huge cause of wobbly bellies, so even if you have Diet drinks, water will always be better for you. It’ll also give your skin a healthy glow and get rid of circles from under your eyes. That and a good nights sleep! I will also have a look at the alcoholic beverages with the lowest calories… as for me that will be a big down fall, considering I am prone to drinking pints.

So consider this entry one into ‘Teeny Tiny’s Diet Diary’ which I am hoping to bring to you weekly. Feel free to use the comments section below to offer words of wisdom, support for other people and to express any moments of weakness you are having so that we might help you. If we work together, ladies and gents, we can all feel as beautiful as we really are.

P.S If I have not at least set off to the gym when you are reading this, please give me a gentle kick up the bum, via Twitter. Ta.

Will be interesting to see what you think works best – I’m with you on wanting to look good on the beach this summer. Not that I’m going to the beach, but y’know.

Now missy, you know you are gorgeous and fabulous already right?! But I know you will be sensible and totally agree, there is no harm at all in getting a little bit healthier and toning up in time for summer….

So, I’m in! My commitment is this:
At least 1/2 and hour every day on the Wii fit (Mon-Fri)
2 days a week swimming (at least)
Following my healthy eating plan (http://www.thislittleladywenttolondon.com/all-about-me/its-a-healthy-eating-thing/)

According to the Wii fit this morning, my BMI is 20.80 (Ideal)but my weight is 9.1…4lbs heaver than the last time I was on there!

My aim is to get to 8 1/2 stone in 4 weeks then maintain that.

You ready teenytiny?! LETS GO!! x

My BMI is 26.25 according to my Wii Fit, which is 2lb heavier than the last time I was on there. I aim to get lost 1st 8lbs in 2 months, which is an average of 5lbs every two weeks. More is obviously better!

I am heading to the gym after a quick work out on the Wii Fit. I will aim to do at least 20 mins on the treadmill, followed by a swim. Tonight for tea I will have chicken and veg (spinach nom nom nom) then tomorrow I will start again. One day at a time for me to start with! I now have the added incentive of the Race for Life on June 6th….

Anyone else want to share their goals and weight? Let’s help eachother out!

Can I just say that men are thinking about this more these days or at least we don’t mind talking about it.

I was part of a conversation when we were planning our holiday the other day… 2 of my mates agreed they need to sort their bikini body… I’m hoping they were speaking figuratively… I’m not going with them if they’re wearing bikini’s!

I’m thinking there needs to be an equivalent male phrase… the best I could come up with is ‘Trunk Hunk… bodies’ :S

Thanks Andrew, that’s a great idea! I will get our resident male blogger, The Gent, to have a look and see if he can come with an inspiring post to get blokes involved to. I agree, unless they are planning on sporting a two piece on the beach a new phrase is needed pronto! I will get The Gent to do our diet and keep fit as well, then he can relate to the guys. So spread the word – we need tips and feedback from men! London, let’s unite and beat the belly!

Pulling for you Lamb, I’m trying to be good too…lost 1 and a half stone last summer, so i’ll try to do that again!!

    My tips..

Routine: Start to see food as fuel, prepare what you will eat in advance, but reward yourself with a ‘Pleasure Meal’ once a week or once a fortnight as motivation. Over summer i had and apple for breakfast every day, and another with lunch, drank two litres of water per day at work alone.

Move: I’m on my feet all day at work anyway, but I tried to keep on the move, at weekends, do an hour on the bike or go for a run. Get a partner, or more crucially, a small mp3 player – its amazing how much more you can push yourself if you have the right music!!

Baby steps: Replaced Coke with Diet Coke, then water (always have 3-4 bottles of water in the fridge, then when you come home just take sips/gulps from that for the rest of the day) Replaced White bread with seeded wholemeal, replaced butter with low fat spread as part of a daily packed lunch. Low fat Crisps. Spirits over Beer. no chocolate in the house!

Don’t Grocery shop hungry: you will come home with twelvety wagon wheels and 4 tubs of ben & jerrys.

Smaller portions: I used to eat enough for two at dinner time, try to eat roughly half a portion of what you would normally.

It all comes down to willpower, the first 2/3 weeks are the hardest but it is doable!
