Food: Chino Latino

2 March 2010 No Comment

I was recently lucky enough to be invited to the fabulous Pan Asian restaurant Chino Latino, based at the Park Plaza Riverbank, for afternoon tea with a little bit of a twist.

Now I’m a huge fan of afternoon tea. Recent favourites have included The Grove in Hertfordshire, and The G in Galway. So, armed with high expectations, my best friend and an empty belly, we arrived to see what Chino Latino had to offer.

Our reservation was for 5pm but when we arrived the restaurant and bar area were nearly empty. The lone waiter was cleaning tables, and we stood and we waited. Then we waited a little bit more. And then we rolled our eyes and made our way to the bar, where we finally caught the waiters eye and were seated.

Not necessarily the best start.

But that all changed when our tea arrived. We hadn’t known exactly what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised when our Asian inspired cream tea arrived. Consisting of sushi & maki rolls alongside the most delicious pastries and a ginger cheese cake that was quite simply, a little piece of heaven. It was all delicious, and made a pleasant change from the standard finger sandwiches in most establishments.

The food most definitely surpassed the service, which was a little bit patchy; we found that our server wasn’t able to tell us what the dishes were, or answer some of our most basic questions. Would this stop me going back? No. And if you’re ever in the area, I most definitely recommend you pop in for a delicious afternoon tea.

Why not consider Chino Latino for a Mothers Day treat? Get afternoon tea (including a glass of champagne) for just £15 each. Lovely!
