Ready For The Weekend: Barclays Live Dance Competition!

Dance is everywhere at the moment. For the last couple of years in particular, it has become a more and more popular past time to take in a dance show. With TV shows like Britain’s Got Talent being dominated by dancing winners, with George Sampson in 2008 and Diversity in 2009 the evidence, it’s a clear sign that the UK is going dance-crazy. New films such as Step Up 3D are just another sign of the growing craze. Maybe it’s because we all wish we could move our bodies in …

Food & Drink: The Albannach

Ah, Sunday. The quiet day of the week. The time for families and friends to get together and share a meal which, most commonly will be the great British institution; Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Those who know me, will know that I am a huge scotch whiskey fan, and those who don’t, do now! So imagine my delight when my brother announced that he heard of restaurant that combined the two. Albannach is located on Trafalgar Square and consists of three floors, each with its own specific purpose.
Upon arrival, …

Carling’s Home Draught: Get It While It’s Cold!

You may remember I recently got sent a homebrew kit by iBrew, a final review of which is coming up shortly. Obviously someone saw the review and wanted to show me an alternative to my homebrew needs. Enter: Carling Home Draught. The name is deceptive, as it isn’t a kit that you put time and effort into to, slowly creating your own Carling with love, sweat and tears (depending on how easy you find homebrewing). It’s a lot simpler than that. The Carling is already in the homebrew bottle, the …

Power boxing

I’ve always been quite inquisitive about power plates – are they for lazy people who can’t be bothered to exercise or clever people who are just looking to tone up?
I became one of those clever people (obviously) when I went to try out Power Boxing at Harrods Power plate studio last week – and not only did I actually break a sweat I must have toned up too – given that I could hardly walk the next morning.
Located in Harrods department store, it takes place in a tiny studio just …

Food & Drink: The Anthologist

Wanted: destination bar and restaurant to be all things to all people.  Must be funky and fresh, aspirational but affordable and cater impeccably for a diverse and fun-starved City clientele.
First impressions of The Anthologist are that this is a brief it is well-placed to fulfill.  With very little presence on the outside (not even much signage) it opens into a vast airy space, crammed full of complementary contemporary styles.  Exposed ceiling fixtures give it a light industrial feel in tune with its sister bars, The Refinery (Southwark) and The Parlour …

Revelations…

It’s been an interesting week.
Every afternoon, without explanation, a mysterious visitor has arrived at my door, with a plain black box wrapped in plain ribbon.
Each day, the boxes have contained a fantastic present…some large, some small, some odd…but all unexpected.
And no. I’m not bragging about a secret admirer.
The presents are all related to the Courvoisier Revolutionary Spirit Festival, which has landed with a bang in London this week.
Courvoisier has long had a reputation for producing outstanding Cognac, but it seems that they’re now pushing boundaries when it comes to entertainment …

International Meeting of Styles…

The International Meeting of Styles, the biggest graffiti and aerosol jam in the world, is coming to London on 20 and 21 August showcasing 60 of Europe’s most skilled artists in a high-energy block party. At an undisclosed location in North London, 12 huge walls, rotating advertising boards and a pop-up gallery space make up the canvases which will be painted to a sublime sound track of funk, hip hop and dub.
And in the spirit of Hip Hop street parties, the event is …

Ellie at The O2…

Monday nights are generally quite dull,  another four days till the weekend, still struggling to comprehend another week of the 9 to 5, so it was a welcome change this week to find myself at Indigo at the O2 arena – to see an exclusive performance from the girl of the moment, Ellie Goulding.
The gig, sponsored by Best Buy, saw a real mixture of people in the audience. It seems Ellie has a far reaching appeal, describing herself on her Facebook page under the genre of ‘ folktronica’.
British Synthpop band from Camden, …
