So, last night, along with a few thousand other people, a slightly dubious friend and a truckload of Celebrities, I made my way over to the O2 to watch Batman Live – which has hit London for 14 days only.
I genuinely did not know what to expect from the show. To be honest, I wasn’t even sure if it was a musical or not (it’s not). I just knew it was a huge budget production that was supposed to be pretty good.
It wasn’t. It was incredible.
This is a multi-million pound stage production full of every Batman character you can remember (well, unless you are a super geek, obviously). Batman, Robin, Alfred, The Joker, The Riddler, Catwoman, Two-face, The Penguin, Holly Quinn, they’re all there – and they’re all brilliant. The set is amazing – complete with a huge graphic backdrop that transforms the O2 into Gotham City – and the choreography is simply stunning. The team of acrobats do things that no human should be able to do with their bodies…the effects are great – its truly a visual delight.
I’m no massive Batman fan by any means, but I do love a good performance, and this is the best I’ve seen in years. I was gripped throughout (and for someone with the attention span of a gnat that’s quite impressive) and seriously, cannot recommend highly enough that you get tickets if you can. There were lots of kids there enjoying the show, so it’s great for families, but perfectly acceptable for us grown ups too.
Tickets are still available from the website. Get them while you can!
