You may have noticed that we love a good steak.
Not the healthiest thing to eat, perhaps. But delicious nonetheless. And one of our favourite places to eat steak at the moment, is Black and Blue.
You may recall, we’ve already visited Mortimor Street, and Picasso on the Kings Road. Both are great. However, seeing as the Notting Hill branch is the closest to home, it would be rude not to try this one too.
The first thing I noticed (and liked) was the exterior – the signage is all very art deco and it looks stylish, yet welcoming. As usual, the hostess greeted us warmly and we were shown to our table, offered water and given the menus without delay. I really like this about the Black & Blue chain. The staff are always fabulous – you never wait for a thing and they are seriously helpful (without bing overbearing – a pet hate of mine).
We wanted to go for something totally different to what we’d tried before, but unfortunately I am incapable of turning down a good pate – so I went for the Fois Gras with brioche toast to start. My friend decided to try the Butterfly Prawns in breadcrumbs – and both were excellent choices. My pate was rich, smooth and delicious. His prawns were perfectly cooked, soft on the inside and perfectly crisp on the outside. Nom.
For main course, we decided to go for the big one – the Cote de Boeuf. Now, at £30, I think this is amazing value for money. 2 hungry people, one steak, some delicious chips, a house salad and an extra portion of green beans. We were very, very happy indeed. The steak was cooked perfectly (we asked for rare, it was ideal). The chips were crispy, yet fluffy on the inside. Everything in fact was just delicious. I’m starting to feel like Black and Blue never let me down.
We shared a cheesecake for pudding even though we didn’t really need to (we’re just greedy). I’ve had this before (at Picasso) and I was equally impressed here. Its rich, its slightly stodgy, its calorie laden and it’s great. Loved it.
I cannot stop writing without mentioning the awesome Argentinian Malbec we had too. We do enjoy a good bottle of Malbec, but this one was new in and really is worth the mention. I recommend you try it if you pop in! £27 – and well worth it.
Overall, as usual, we loved Black & Blue. The staff are great, the food is delicious (menu here), the venue stylish and warm. This is probably my favourite branch so far. Until the next one!
