I have always loved my Italian food, so when friends suggested they take me for dinner at Trullo, on St Paul’s Road, Islington, I jumped at the chance. They were busy, very busy and we managed to get the last slot at 6.45pm. [All bookings are for a maximum of 2 hours].
This was delicious, fresh, clean, rustic Italian food, with no pizza on the menu, and 2 pasta dishes only. I had the chicken tortellini in a pea broth to start, grilled pork chop, with white beans, apricot and watercress for a main, and the chocolate tart for dessert, which literally melted in my mouth. I also had a scoop of white peach and yoghurt ice cream on the side, because I was feeling just a tad bit greedy, and they very kindly let me.
Not only was the food of a phenomenal standard, but so was the service. The staff were absolutely lovely, attentive, and very apologetic when they told us we had to leave after two hours as the next booking had come in. I also can’t NOT mention the wine-list, they had a 2008 Amarone on offer, which I noticed too late but absolutely would have bought it if we had more time. My father once said to me, “if you ever see an Amarone on a wine list…BUY IT!” As a special treat, you should never pass up a good Amarone.
So I reckon that alone gives me a very good reason to go back to Trullo…the only question is…who’s coming with me?!
