Review: No.20 Restaurant at The Sanctum Soho Hotel

The Sanctum Soho Hotel is such a fun place. We’ve been here many times – messing about in the roof garden with a cocktail or 7, attending events and generally being mischevious. It’s that kind of hotel – which is why so many celebs stay here when they’re in town (and we know this is true, we’ve spotted them).

One thing we hadn’t done, until last week, was eat here. So we jumped at the chance of checking out No.20, the Hotels 60-cover restaurant on the ground floor. The menu is Modern British, created by Head Chef Lisa Sutherland, and offers Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon Tea and of course Dinner.

Immediately as we walked in, we were struck by the lush interior. It’s glamorous and stylish, with wooden floors, glowing pink pillars and glitzy fixtures and fittings.

The restaurant was fairly quiet at 8pm on a Monday, but that suited us fine. We were seated in a booth, and brought some of the most delicious Lychee Martini’s I’ve tasted in a while, which we sipped as we perused the menu. It’s one of those places where pretty much everything looks delicious, so we were annoyingly slow making our decisions. However, our waitress was brilliant, patiently waiting for the two Martini sipping, chatty women to make up their minds…

Eventually, I chose the Chicken Liver Parfait to start. Slightly predictable (I do love a good paté) but absolutely delicious, and a recommended choice.

For the main course, I opted for the Veal, which was breaded and tasted good – although I was slightly disappointed when I tasted my companions. She went for the Lemon Sole – and I have one thing to say. If you go to the Sanctum Soho for dinner – CHOOSE THIS! It was delicious. Melt in the mouth, soft, cooked to perfection and absolutely the best fish I have ever tried in this country. High praise, yes…but well deserved. I only had a couple of bites, but had serious food envy!

I absolutely loved our night at No.20. The food was fab, and it’s a fun, super-glam venue, that feels luxurious and just that little bit naughty for some reason. After a lovely bottle of wine (and maybe a couple more cocktails) we carried on our night elsewhere…but will most DEFINITELY be back to the Sanctum Soho soon. Looking forward to it already.
