Mid-week on a cold winters evening after a horrible day, the Cadogan Arms is a site for sore eyes indeed.
The space itself is modern but cosy, nestled in the heart of the King’s Road. The decor in the bar and dining room is lovely – wooden panelling, exposed brick work and dark red leather seating blend well with the artwork and decorative mounted animal skulls on the walls. Upstairs, the Billiards Room is much plainer, but the perfect space for when you want that game of pool between beers.
My companion and I arrived for dinner at 7.30, when the dining room was already busy. We were shown straight to our table and brought bottles of water and some delicious white wine, on which we sipped whilst perusing the menu – and what a menu it is.
It took me at least 15 minutes to decide what I was going to eat, as literally everything on offer appealed to me. In the end I ended up opting for the delicious parfait to start, followed by the ale battered fish and chips – which was very good if not slightly under seasoned for my particular taste. The fish is hand selected and bought in daily from Billingsgate Market, so is always of the highest quality. My friend went for the scallops (which gave me serious food envy), and then the Duck from the specials menu – which she thoroughly enjoyed.
One of the things we both commented on was how fabulous the staff were. Friendly, knowledgeable and attentive, without being overbearing. The Manager came over for a chat with us and every request was met with a smile and dealt with immediately. Good service isn’t always so easy to find in London, so this was a definite plus.
Overall, I really enjoyed our evening. A lovely environment, with great staff, good wine and some very tasty food. I would definitely recommend the venue and will definitely be back!
