The Landmark Hotel…

End of January, mid week and I decided that me and the man needed a little treat. Something to get our minds off all the stress of this miserable month. I looked and looked and could not get any inspiration. Didn’t really fancy going into Soho or Mayfair. North London did not attract me either. I was getting a little lost. Then I remembered talking with a friend few weeks back and she had been to a wedding at The Landmark Hotel and she would not shut up how amazing the venue was. She had all sorts of facts up her sleeve; such as The Landmark has the largest rooms in London. Who knew? I didn’t. So, a quick look on their website told me they have a selection of restaurants, all of which look fabulous. I opted for the Winter Garden, purely because of the eight story atrium. The thing about hotel restaurants is that you don’t really expect much as they are indeed ‘hotel restaurants’. However, after seeing the pictures, I was expecting a lot.

We arrived to the hotel and it is really quite grand. Very old worldly with a modern twist. Very castle like, in a very good way. I started thinking about weddings immediately. You walk in through the entrance and it is right there. An eight story atrium. Incredible. Just amazing. You look up and wow. Before dinner, we decided to have a drink at the Mirror Bar as we were both freezing cold from the bloody wind. The Mirror Bar is just what it says in the title. The hallway leading to the bar is filled with mirrors and the bar itself is beautifully done. Very relaxed. We knocked down a few cocktails, my favorite being a mix of cranberry, raspberry, cucumber and vodka. Obviously, I don’t remember the name of the drink, but it was LUSH. I am throwing out Pims forever.

We sat down for dinner. The menu looked good – and I love the fact that they have a “Set Menu”, if you can’t be bothered to choose. However, as an only child, I wanted to pick my own dishes. I opted for Foie Gras to start, beef for main and a selection of desserts. My dinner date had beetroot and goats cheese salad and the sea food platter. We were blown away by the food. The Foie Gras was pan fried. Never had it like that before, incredible. The seafood platter good enough to get the thumbs up from a South African (he often moans about the seafood in the UK). I could have eaten my Fillet of Casterbridge beef over and over again. The best fillet of beef I have had in a long time. We even had the pleasure of great wine knowledge, as we struggled to pick wines for our courses. The friendly Restaurant Supervisor suggested a different wine for each course. That is what I call service. The selection of desserts was the final icing in the excellent cake. OMG!

We have not eaten that well in a while. Service was so friendly, you almost forget that you are in a restaurant so to speak. The entire evening was a “moment”. Before we left, having no shame and all, I asked the reception if I could have a look at some of the rooms as I wanted to see how big they are! They are HUGE. Seriously. Saw two and they were both so nicely decorated and had the biggest shower heads I have ever seen. Unbelievable. I really need to go have a proper look as I am planning a wedding party for June. Shhhhh. Don’t tell anyone. Thank you.

If you love fine food, amazing surroundings and great service with a smile, you should look no further than The Landmark and their Winter Garden.

This place comes HIGHLY recommended when you need a “moment” in your life. I am still feeling the bliss.
