I love London in the snow. It is so beautiful and picturesque, and I revert instantly to my childhood self, jumping around, catching snowflakes and desperately trying to resist the urge to make snow angels in the street. Brilliant fun. But also, bloody freezing.
So deciding to go for Burritos after meeting my lovely friend from work on Wednesday was definitely a most excellent plan. And seeing as we were in the City, the new Tortilla in Leadenhall Market seemed like a wise choice.
We weren’t wrong. I’m a big fan of Burritos, especially in winter (why get a cold sandwich for lunch when you can munch on a chilli hot mexican instead?!) and have tested all the major establishments in London, from Benitos Hat to Chillango and everywhere in between. They’re all good. But I think Tortilla comes out on top for me so far.
I went for Chicken, with guacamole, sour cream, mixed peppers, salad, tomato rice, the lot. It was delicious. He went for steak, black beans and extra chilli’s – also extremely tasty. I don’t think the Margaritas and Mexican beers did us any harm either – the silver tequila definitely warmed us up. Lovely.
I liked the space Tortilla has too – from the outside it looks like a tiny takeaway, but downstairs they have a huge event space for well over 100 covers, with awesome artwork up on brick walls, room for a stage and your own personal bar so it’s perfect for office parties and birthday do’s that won’t cost the earth.
Overall, we really enjoyed Tortilla and if you’re in the area, I recommend you visit ASAP. It’s perfect for lunch or, like us, an after-work bite. Oh…And if you can finish a large Burrito…you’re a better person than me!
