Dinner at The Ledbury? A Top Treat Indeed…

I think I have mentioned this before, but in case you’d missed it…I am a big fan of food. Actually, I would go so far as to say I am a food groupie. Love the stuff. It’s marvellous.

It goes without saying then, that I am also a fan of TopTable, the foodie website that let’s you earn points as you book tables at most of London’s top restaurants, and organises some incredible deals too. I have been a member for years and have taken the opportunity to eat in some amazing establishments during that time. With discounts, free drinks and all manner of other treats, I didn’t think it could get much better.

I was wrong. You see, TopTable have partnered with Amex to bring lucky American Express card holders even better deals than on TopTable alone, over at TopTreats. It’s like they’re throwing free stuff at you. Not only will Amex holders receive the standard points and discounts awarded when booking through TopTable, they’ll also receive double reward points when they pay with their Amex card too. Bonus.

The site features everything from local Bistros to award winning restaurants, so we decided to push the boat out and try The Ledbury over in Notting Hill. I have always heard amazing things about this 2 Michelin Star venue, and was more than happy to trudge through the snow (OK, so we took a taxi really) to W11 to see just how fabulous it really was.

A-MAZ-ING.

The first thing you notice is how beautifully the restaurant is presented. Not at all stuffy, but comfortable and stylish and small enough to feel almost cosy. However, the tables are a decent distance apart so that you don’t feel you’re having dinner on your neighbours lap, which is one of my pet hates.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, ushering us in from the cold and offering a seat and menu’s while we waited the few minutes for our table to be ready. Both me and my companion had made up our mind in moments. For him; Native lobster with leek, potato and Manzanilla, followed by the Milk Fed lamb. For me: Ceviche of Hand Dived Scallops, followed by Crisp Pressed Suckling Pig. Divine.

My Ceviche was flavoursome, light and delicious, but I have to say that my friend made the absolute perfect choice with the lobster. The portion size was generous, the flavours were simply incredible and we were both looking at each other in awe after tasting it; I am genuinely surprised he let me go back in for a second bite. Truly scrumptious.

For our entree’s – I personally think I won. The pork was mouthwateringly good, with the best piece of crackling I have ever had the pleasure to try. Saying that, the lamb was also phenomenal, exactly as you would expect from a 2 starred restaurant. Sweet, melt in the mouth meat that you hardly need a knife to cut. Delicious.

After such a wonderful, filling meal we hardly needed dessert, but as anyone who knows me will tell you, if there is evidence of a cheese board I am not leaving the room until I have attacked it with vigour. And this was a selection and a half. I tried everything possible, from soft goats cheeses, to stinking blues and hard, ripe cheddar. All were delectable, but unfortunately I was finally beaten into submission and couldn’t quite finish what was left. I am ashamed to have left such tempting morsels, but it was either that or explode.

Obviously, we hoped The Ledbury would be marvellous, but it genuinely exceeded our expectations and both myself and my guest came away beaming and telling everyone just how fabulous our night had been. A real triumph, and my new favourite London restaurant by far.

If you would like to follow our lead and try out TopTreats, visit the website and get booking for Christmas! The partnership runs until the end of the year so you still have time to make the most of these incredible offers. And seriously, try The Ledbury if you can. You won’t regret it.
