I cannot deny it. When it comes to my hair, I had got lazy. The ends were split. The colour was dull. The shape was, well, quite frankly, shapeless. I was in desperate need of some help. So help I got – in the shape of the Michael Barnes salon on Shaftesbury Avenue – and luckily for me the main man himself.
I’m slightly embarrassed to admit that I hadn’t heard of Michael before this week. The man is a hairdressing legend with a career that spans the last 30 years. He’s also a bloody nice bloke – down to earth, funny and great to chat to. All of which is great, but can he cut hair? Yes. He most definitely can.
I finally decide to sort my lank locks out as I could not face the public humiliation any longer, and with the Tatler Little Black Book party this evening, I knew I had to sort out my hair to match my amazing dress (Karen Millen) and fabulous shoes (YSL don’t you know). However, I’ve been growing my hair for forever and am always nervous about losing too much length. I explained this to Michael and he immediately put me at ease – showing me exactly how much would need to come off to make it look healthy again. I was so confident in his advice we ended up chopping in a fringe too – something I’d be thinking about for ages but not trusted anyone to do.
Colour-wise, we went for a semi-permanent in a dark chocolate shade – a complete transformation from the mousey brown, dull mess I’d gone in with, and I have to say it was the best choice possible. The colour is rich, luxurious and natural looking, and my hair looks completely healthy with incredible shine. I love it!
As for the cut, I am blown away with the results. I have naturally big hair with a wave, and the cut accentuates the bounce, looks stylish and even if I do say so myself, fabulous! The fringe was left long and suits my face shape. I left feeling amazing and confident, and I have no doubts at all that I’ll be back. Soon.
All in all, I had a really great experience at Michael Barnes. Good chat, nice wine and great hair. What more could a girl want?!
