You may remember I recently got sent a homebrew kit by iBrew, a final review of which is coming up shortly. Obviously someone saw the review and wanted to show me an alternative to my homebrew needs. Enter: Carling Home Draught. The name is deceptive, as it isn’t a kit that you put time and effort into to, slowly creating your own Carling with love, sweat and tears (depending on how easy you find homebrewing). It’s a lot simpler than that. The Carling is already in the homebrew bottle, the tap and gas are in the packet with it. The process is simple, so simple that even I did it with no fuss whatsoever.
You take the bottle, and place it in the fridge. 24 hours later, and it’s nicely chilled ready to put it in a glass and get it down your neck. All you need to do is twist the gas until the green arrows are lined up, remove the safety tab and pull the handle firmly down all the way to pour your pint. Before you know it, there’s a pint of cold Carling sitting on your table.
The process, as you can see, is ridiculously simple. Unlike the iBrew, you won’t be planning ahead, looking at two or three weeks in advance, judging when you need to start the process to ensure it’s ready for when your mates come round for the big match. Just pop it in the fridge the day before and before you know it your mates are suitably impressed as they clutch their pints, celebrating the winning strike. It’s also a nice alternative to the mass waste of a crate of beer, there will be no bottles or cans lying around afterwards with this bad boy. There are one or two things to note though. The first few times you use it, the Carling will shoot out of the tap at an incredible velocity, and despite how you angle the glass you will end up with about 50% head. This will therefore involve a bit of work but ultimately it’s a nice, easy to use unit. The taste is good and while it can’t quite reach the heights of a pint from the bar, it’s the closest you’ll get in your living room. Unless you have a bar in your living room. In which case you can bugger off.
