‘Carrie Bradshaw fell in Dior, I fell in Debenhams. It was May 2008, and it was spectacular. Uncomfortable heels + slippy floor + head turned by a cocktail dress = thwack. Arms stretched overhead, teeth cracking on floor tiles, chest and knees breaking the fall. It was theatrical, exaggerated, a perfect 6.0. And it was Significant Moment #1 in discovering that I had grade-three breast cancer.’
Recently we were invited to attend the event ‘Bowling For Boobies’, at which I met a wonderful lady called Lisa. Lisa is sparkling and you could pick her out of hundreds of people for being just brilliant. The one thing you could not pick her out for is having had, and survived, the “sheer bloody pain-in-the-arse inconvenience of getting breast cancer at 28″.
Not only has Lisa Lynch kicked cancer with the upmost grace and confidence, she has also written a book about it. If any of you follow her blog (if you don’t, you should) then you will know that this book is set to be an absolute hoot. You will be crying with laughter and her pain, but most of all her strength with be clear from cover to cover. If you are going through a similar thing or you just want a bloody good read we wholeheartedly advise you to click here and buy a copy of “The C Word”. You could drop Lisa Lynch a tweet and tell her how brilliant she is whilst you’re at it. Let’s see how big we can make her ego grow.
For details of the East End Book Club please tweet either @LornaMedia or me, @teenytinyleanne. The next book will be Dorothy Koomson’s ‘The Ice Cream Girls’.
