SPLURGE on Fashion! The Basics (by Msalonen)

So, over here at TLLWTL Towers, we decided we’d been a little bit thin on Style features in recent months. So, for your weekly pleasure, I would like to introduce the fabulous Msalonen to guide you through your Designer Fashion must-haves, your High Street Essentials and enough gorgeousness to make you swoon….

Over to you M!

To introduce myself, I have decided to prove my fashion credentials and give you an outfit built purely on “must haves”.

The following  items are what I think every woman should have in their closet…

Over the years every Designer has come up with a “must have” item; be it the trench coat, LBD, silver strappy sandals, envelope bag or crisp white shirt. The items on my list are my basics for every woman out there.  Size, height, weight, skin colour, all of that is irrelevant.

The beauty of this first outfit is that all the items are basics, something you should own and best of all they work amazingly well together. Win win situation.

I don’t believe in tradition, I am making my own rules. Like one famous cat once said “These are my bullets, let me show you them!”

So, here we go.

Every outfit should start with the shoes. They should say something, anything. As long as the shoes speak, that’s fine. Unless of course they scream obscenities. In that case, that pair should be put into a box for punishment. Once you have decided on the shoes, the rest should fall into place fairly easily.

The basic heels by Christian Louboutin “Pigalle 120 patent pumps” £375
Oooooh, shiny! There isn’t anything quite like Louboutin. He did to heels what Aussiebum did for my underwear. You need a pair of these. Little expensive, but I honestly don’t understand who you would go on without. Will work with anything, jeans, shorts, dresses, parkas, suits..Anything. Word of warning, if you cant walk in heels and make it look like you are treading in shit, please practise.

The basic top, Ruffled silk-crepe blouse by Moschino Cheap & Chic £350
Silk-crepe, ruffles, girly, flirty and just so fabulous. (not sure where the cheap part comes in thou).

The basic bag, Yves Saint Laurent Chych Large Flap Shoulder Bag £1,240
A good bag can make an outfit POP, a “bad” bag will make it UNPOP, even. This one, is perfect.
Big enough to fit all your crap, but small enough so you can fit in the kitchen sink.

The basic skirt, Diane Von Furstenberg £225
Aaaah, the pencil skirt. Making women wiggle for decades. There isn’t quite anything like it. Its classic, sexy and versatile. If you haven’t tried one on yet, please make it your top priority do so. Thanks.

The basic jacket. Alexander McQueen £895
Everyone should have a GREAT blazer, it will take you from spring to fall and back again. More importantly, you all need a little McQueen. Rest in peace Mr McQueen.

The basic watch. Paul & Joe £355
Seriously? Yes, I am being dead serious. Make your staple watch FUN! It needs to make you smile while waiting for the ever late friend
or counting down the hours at work or checking the time for the show.. Smiles for everyone!

The basic ring. Kenneth Jay Lane £155
We all need a little sparkle. Not too girly, not too shiny. Just perfect black gorgeousness.

Now. I know you’re thinking “ It’s all very black and white”. This may be true. But you have to start from somewhere. Basics should be about just that basics. Things you build your wardrobe around. The things you invest in, spend good money on and keep them for years to come.

This is my Designer Basics selection; start with these and you will always have something to wear.
