I have been visiting Harvey Nichols for as long as I can remember, and have always been a big fan of stopping off at the Fifth Floor for a well deserved drink after all that hard shopping.
It’s been a few months since my last visit, so it was a genuine pleasure to discover the brightly refurbished Perrier-Jouët Champagne Bar has been installed in my absence.
The new Fifth Floor is an entirely different venue to the old. The blacked out windows that blocked the views and the light have gone, and the new decor is beautifully inspired by the iconic anemone design for the Perrier-Jouët Cuvée Belle Époque Champagne bottle. The colour scheme is predominantly white, with flashes of green and pink that ensure it is both welcoming and sophisticated at the same time.
At 5pm, the bar was busy without being in anyway crowded – I noticed a couple of business meetings, elegant ladies laden with shopping bags relaxing with a glass of bubbles and some very cosy looking dates. As the evening progressed, the atmosphere livened as the after work cocktail crowd arrived, but remained impossibly chic.
Predictably, champagne features heavily on the drinks list, and you can find some rare treats on the menu (such as the Belle Époque Blanc de Blancs) if your budget allows. There are also some delicious cocktails available that I can guarantee you’ll be tempted to sample.
I had a faultless evening; the champagne was delicious, the venue beautiful and the service impeccable. The 5th Floor is back at the top of my list for a suggested meeting place when meeting friends in London. A real treat!
