Please Battersea, can I have some more? Oh wait, you’ve taken care of everything!

For anyone following myself (@teenytinyleanne) or @mrmcbear in the wonderful world of Twitter you shall know about the new addition at Chez Bearbury. No, don’t panic Mum, we won’t be hearing the pitter patter of tiny feet anytime soon. Actually that is a blatant lie, we will be hearing teeny tiny kitty feet from our new kitty, Oliver.

This might seem like an incredibly predictive blog, after all I am simply in love with the little critter already and everytime he so much as blinks I rush to his aid in the fear of him being injured or poorly. However, as much as I might take every blogging oppertunity I can to share photos and stories about our little orphan, that is not initially what I want from this blog.

I am writing this to try to encourage anyone looking for a new pet to visit a rescue centre before making their purchase and I would highly recommend Battersea Cats and Dogs home. They are a charity run establishment, replying completely on donations from the public which is why you might see them often asking for your cash. I’m no more of a fan of this than you are, however after my recent dealings with them I will now try as often as I can to donate some money through registered sites for them.

After visiting Battersea for the first time yesterday I was rather overwhelmed with the service we received. Anyone can go and view the animals for a small donation of £1 (50p for kiddie winks) and you can wander around freely petting critters if they are allowed out of their cages. Make sure you take the relevant documents you might need if you are looking to adopt and be preapred for them to have to do a home visit, which we were when we went yesterday.

All the animals seem really happy and the staff simply dote on each and everyone of them. The entire place is friendly whilst staying fantastically clean without feeling clinical. If you do get to adopt a pet from there, they have a really great aftercare service where if anything is wrong with them from the home the will treat them for free and they insure them for free for a month. They have them microchipped and more often not they are already neutered. They also send you home with some of the food they have been on so they don’t get a dicky tummy when they arrive at their new house.

Now, I’ve done what can only feel like a sales pitch to say how great they are and we really couldn’t reccommend them enough. Our kitty, Oliver, has had a couple of health issues in the past so we were given him for free, whereas normally for a cat they ask for a donation of £60. Well worth it. You might think at this stage I am going to ask you for money, but I am not. This is neither the time or the place. I simply wanted to celebrate how great they are and to let you all know they are doing a great job. If you want to donate money I’m sure you can do it via their website.

So, to sum up, if you are looking for a pet in London why not head to Battersea?

Weekends are renowned for being busy, so if you’re short of time go on a weekday when it is much quieter.

Over and out.

I wholeheartedly agree with this post, they do such great work. Even though we live on the South coast I remember as children going up to Battersea to get our dog Aries and our cat Blueboy.
Welcome Oliver to Chez Bearbury! xxx
