Wowza, I did not expect that when I opened the front door this morning. I was in a bit of a rubbish mood when I first woke up. I don’t like getting up early, I don’t like having to wade through boxes after you have moved house and I don’t like feeling unprepared for an audition. Today presented me with all three of these things. I clumsily searched through lots of boxes, some of which are tall enough for me to stand upright in, woke Mr McBear from his slumber and frantically rehearsed my speeches through mouthfuls of Cheerios.
Now, I am not normally so unorganised when it comes to auditions. In fact, it’s lucky I am so organised or this morning would have been a million times worse. I know my speeches, I can do this particular Juliet speech standing on my head (yes, I have ACTUALLY done that, two words: DRAMA SCHOOL) but I like to give them a quick read over before I audition for roles. That becomes hindered slightly when you have less than 24 hours notice about an audition. It is also hindered when you can’t say no to a take away with a fabulous girlfriend the night before. I should point out we didn’t drink, however we also did not rehearse my lines as it is almost impossible to do that and watch Sex in the City.
So this morning I get up, in a little bit of a grump, ready to panic and rehearse on the tube looking like a madwoman talking to
herself, open the front door and – WHAMMY! I am hit with glorious sunshine. Suddenly, my mood is lifted, I discover my sunglasses have magically hopped into my bag over night and I arrive at the theatre nice and early, with a healthy glow about my face.
I think it went well. Although saying that, one can never be sure. I am very excited about the company (Lazarus Theatre Company) and their projects because the director, Ricky Dukes, works fully with an ensemble and enjoys everyone’s interpretations and input, which is something I haven’t yet experienced outside of drama school. I would definitely reccommend going to see their up and coming production of Othello (even if they don’t pick me *sob*) as there was a clear excitment behind their eyes as they talked about it. They start rehearsing on Monday and the show runs from 13th April – 8th May 2010, at the The Blue Elephant Theatre in Camberwell. Tickets are from just £10 and can be booked via www.blueelephanttheatre.co.uk
