Wasn’t it a weird weather day in London yesterday? Sunshine, hailstones, rain, sunshine, snow. Luckily I was oblivious to most of it, being safely ensconced in Selfridges perusing the sales and torturing myself by gazing longingly at sky high designer heels….
Ooooh, and I got hypnotised, which was fun.
Anyway, after an intense afternoons shopping and Starbucks drinking for me, and a long day at work for him, The Boy and I headed along to Vanilla on Great Titchfield Street for some early evening cocktails and dinner.
Seeing as this was the venue Cheryl Cole chose to celebrate her 26th birthday last week, wearing that controversial Alexander McQueen dress, I expected big things, and the
restaurant and bar certainly look the part. Modern, clean and well lit, with frosted mirrors and blue accents, it looks good.
Service was great. We had booked early (7pm) and were greeted and seated immediately. The bar was already fairly busy but the restaurant was pretty quiet and we got a very romantic table in a corner. Lovely.
We had booked through Top Table and therefore received a great deal – £14.50 each for 2 courses. Absolute bargain. I chose Asparagus and Goats Cheese Mousse to start, he went for Wild Mushroom Gnocchi. We both decided on Corn-fed Chicken with Fondant Potatoes for our main. The food was very enjoyable, but didn’t set my world on fire, although I’d certainly recommend making the most of the deal we had.
The cocktails, on the other hand, were A-MAZ-ING! The Boy had his usual, a Mojito, and I made my way through a few Fire Waters – a delicious combination of chilli infused finlandia vodka, fresh watermelon and basil. Yummy.
Overall, we had a great evening. The service was tip-top, the atmosphere was good, and the food was enjoyable. I do have a little complaint though – the toilet paper was bloody awful – sort it out Vanilla!
